Offshore producers of US import hot dipped galvanized coil from Pakistan, the UAE, Turkey, South Africa and Thailand have fallen silent since our last report a week ago, as US-based trader sources have said that offshore mills have temporarily withdrawn offers to the US due to recent upticks in iron ore, global scrap and Chinese hot rolled coil costs.
As such, US-based traders have stopped offering imported 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil in the US domestic market from Pakistan, the UAE, Turkey and South Africa; they have also stopped offering imported for 0.019”x48” G90 coil in the domestic market from Turkey and Thailand until offshore mills present them with revised import offer prices.
“We expect that when these mills start to offer again that they will do so with prices that are $30-$50/nt ($1.50-$2.50 cwt. Or $33-$55/mt) higher than their most recent offer pricing,” one trader source said.
Prices in the below chart represent previously heard sales pricing for 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil from Pakistan, the UAE, Turkey and South Africa, and 0.019”x48” G90 coil from Turkey and Thailand in from US-based traders, to US-based customers, in the US domestic market.
