The most recently heard
US import hot dipped
galvanized (HDG) coil futures offers for 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil from Turkish, Indian and South African steelmakers continue to be heard at an approximate
US sales price range of $42-$44 cwt. ($925-$970/mt or $840-$880/nt), DDP loaded truck in
US Gulf coast ports; Pakistani material of this same grade, which SteelOrbis last week reported to be heard at price point that was approximately $3.00 cwt. ($66/mt or $60/nt) less than Turkish, Indian and South African material, also continues to trend sideways.
“It’s just quiet out there due to it being the high of summer,” one trader source said.
In terms of
US import tonnages in June, Brazilian mills continue to hold the lead.
Last month, Brazilian steelmakers exported 12,100 mt of Galvalume to
US ports. According to the most recent data from the
US Department of Commerce, Enforcement and Compliance, for the month June, the
US imported 30,080 mt (license data) of
coated steel from Brazilian steelmakers, which is more than three times the amount imported in June 2015, when
US buyers imported 9,170 mt of
coated steel from Brazil.
