US import HDG market trends quiet amidst Thanksgiving week

The US import HDG market is trending quiet this week, which is largely tied to the US Thanksgiving holiday celebration.

At current, offers for imported 0.019”x48” G90 coil, and imported 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil are still trending quiet, as mills in other countries had taken pause to evaluate their input costs before presenting new sales pricing to US-based traders.  It is, however, expected that those offers could be renewed as soon as next week. Once that happens, US-based traders will once again begin to offer US import 0.019”x48” G90 coil and imported 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil in the US domestic market to downstream customers.

It is also worth noting that US domestic flat rolled steel mills have announced three price increases in the past month; mills have also revised their quotes for coating extras, citing upticks in zinc costs.

There are also many questions about whether the Trump administration, which will take control of the US government early next year, will hike import tariffs; concerns about whether the Trump administration will follow through on promises to be aggressive with trade actions has led buyers to become increasingly cautious when it comes to entertaining offshore offers.

** Prices in the below chart represent the last heard sales pricing for 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil from Pakistan, the UAE, Turkey and South Africa, and 0.019”x48” G90 coil from Turkey and Thailand in from US-based traders, to US-based customers, in the US domestic market. These offers / prices are no longer available.
