Last week, Donald Trump announced the Section 232 investigation would be delayed until after the administration addressed tax reform and infrastructure spending.
At current, it’s believed the investigation could be delayed “indefinitely” out of concerns that the implementation of steep tariffs and quotas on steel imports could start an international trade war.
As such, import offers continue to be made; pricing has remained stable week-over-week.
This week’s pricing for imported 0.012”x40.875” G30 hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil, imported 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 Galvalume coil in the US domestic market, and imported 0.012”x40.875” G30 hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil in the US domestic market are listed in the below chart.
It should be noted, however, that Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas has announced it will be increasing HDG prices in the Brazilian local market by over 10 percent in early-to-mid August. It is not yet clear how that increase will impact export offer prices to the US.
