Prices, order activity and inquiries within the US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil markets are mostly steady since our last report a week ago, with traders continuing to report a “careful market evaluation” prior to placing any large orders. They don’t however, expect too many changes when it comes to import offer prices. “Offshore offers are low enough that those mills really don’t need to reduce prices any further,” according to one Midwest-based source.
In terms of arrivals, import tonnages are expected to taper throughout January and February, as the rampant “trade case fever” rumors that swirled toward the end of 2014 caused a tapering in offshore bookings.
