The most commonly heard spot market price transaction range for US domestic base price hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil may be unchanged, week-over-week, at $41.50-$42.50 cwt. ($915-$937/mt or $830-$850/nt), ex-mill, but sources close to SteelOrbis say that “deals are long-gone” and an increasing number of transactions are taking place at the middle to top end of that range.
It’s also believed that another price increase could come as soon as this week due to upticks in input costs, and also as a way to push the most recent price increase through.
On Friday, SteelOrbis reported that the expectation for US scrap prices in March to move back up to January levels has already been surpassed; scrap prices on the US East coast are already at or above the January price ranges, and prices in the South and Midwest are also forecast to settle upward.
