US Steel may have rolled out an immediate $1.25 cwt. ($28/mt or $25/nt) for flat rolled steel products, but whether that increase will be accepted has yet to be seen. For now, the US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) market has seemed to hold its course since our last report a week ago, as the most commonly reported ex-Midwest mill transaction range has held at approximately $37.00-$39.00 cwt. ($816-$860/mt or $840-$860/nt). But that’s not to say there isn’t a little bit of wiggle room for buyers who are looking to book larger tonnages. Deals slightly below this range are said to be available for sizable orders, while those looking to buy small will find themselves paying prices toward the top of the spot price span. Orders activity and inquiries are expected to trend light this week, as many are preparing for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
