Order activity within the US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) market seems to have fallen off since our last report a week ago, a trend that is directly attributed to most having taken time off to celebrate the year-end holiday season.
“Absolutely nothing has changed in the past seven days,” according to one Texas-based source, who notes that the most commonly reported spot price transaction range has held at $35.00-$37.00 cwt. ($772-$816/mt or $700-$740/nt) ex-Midwest mill. What will be interesting, however, is to see where prices settle come January, as many believe that additional pricing downticks could be on the horizon, especially if US domestic hot rolled coil (HRC) prices continue along a path of slow erosion.
