Activity within the US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) has trended mostly quiet for the past seven days, as many are just now returning to work after the three-day holiday weekend. And in the absence of mass activity, it’s not surprising that prices have held lateral. The most commonly reported spot price transaction range continues to hold at approximately $37.00-$39.00 cwt. ($816-$860/mt or $840-$860/nt) ex-Midwest mill, with a number of deals taking place toward the bottom end of that range. Although it was speculated that US flats mills would roll out price increases right after Labor Day, that has not yet happened, although sources close to SteelOrbis still think one is imminent.
