The slow, downward pricing trend that’s been plaguing the US domestic flat rolled steel market has some buyers of import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil trending reluctant.

Although it’s not believed that current US domestic HDG spot market prices will plunge, some trader sources say they’re taking a wait-and-see approach when it comes to booking futures.

At current, US import HDG pricing from Indian steelmakers continue to trend at $620-$630/mt FOB, unchanged since our last repot a week ago, but SteelOrbis sources are describing current ex-India orders as being negligible.

Ex-Brazil offer prices for HDG G40 are currently being heard at $756/mt FOB; as with our last repot a week ago, mill sources in that country continue to report that sea freight from a port in Southeast Brazil to the US East coast is currently trending at $40/mt.
