Turkey was the top destination for Brazilian slab in January

Brazil exported 155,800 mt of slab to Turkey in January at $222/mt, FOB conditions, comparable to 35,100 mt at $260/mt FOB in December, according to the local ministry of development, industry and foreign trade, MDIC.

The exporters to Turkey were ArcelorMittal (100,200 mt at $223/mt) and ThyssenKrupp CSA (55,600 mt at $219/mt), both FOB conditions.

In total, Brazil exported in January 392,530 mt of slab, 43 percent less than in December, at $240/mt FOB in average.

ThyssenKrupp CSA exported 190,300 mt at $249/mt, ArcelorMittal Tubarao exported 161,400 mt at $228/mt and Gerdau Acominas exported 40,600 mt at $241/mt, all FOB conditions. Destinations other than Turkey were China (54,400 mt at $238/mt), South Korea (53,500 mt at $221/mt) and Mexico (40,700 mt at $241/mt).

A source from a major slab producer told SteelOrbis that the basic price for negotiations for slab exports of the basic commercial grades remains at $230/mt, FOB conditions, stable for almost three months.
