During the week ending March 21, common carbon medium plate and shipbuilding plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a slight uptrend, though prices of low alloy medium plate prices have softened. Transaction activity in the overall market has been at decent levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the tables below.
During the given week, since semi-finished steel prices in Tangshan have continued their upward trend, steel plate prices have gained some support and moved up slightly, apart from low alloy steel plate prices. Meanwhile, other finished steel products such as rebar have moved on a rising price trend, exerting a positive impact on steel plate prices. Lately, some shortages have been seen in supply of steel plate, which will boost steel plate prices in the coming period. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely edge up in the week ahead.
