A source from a Brazilian exporter told SteelOrbis that he expects a recovery in slab export prices in the short term.

In his view, slab prices should follow the trend seen in other products of the steel production chain, like iron ore and HRC, whose prices have increased over recent weeks. He mentioned that his last slab export deal was still closed at $375/mt, FOB conditions, but he believes that prices will increase over the next few weeks.

In May, for price deals probably closed in March, Companhia Siderurgica do Pecem exported its slab at $410/mt, ArcelorMittal Tubarao at $431/mt, ThyssenKrupp CSA at $446/mt and Gerdau Acominas at $393/mt, all FOB conditions.
