During the week ending June 13, average steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have moved on an upward trend, while transaction activity in the overall market has been better than in the previous week, though it still remains at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the tables below.
During the given week, production limitations in northern China have provided support for steel plate prices. Meanwhile, in Shanghai, there has been a supply shortage, which has also provided support for steel plate prices. Transaction activities have improved a little, though downstream users still mostly maintain a wait-and-see stance. Steelmakers’ profitability has been negatively impacted lately, and so they are unlikely to increase their production capacity utilization rates. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
