The US hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume market continued to soften this week as offers on both HDG base price and Galvalume base price dropped another $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) ex-Midwest mill.
US domestic HDG base price can now be found in the general range of $36.00-$37.50 cwt. ($794-$827/mt or $720-$750/nt). Pricing on HDG with the specifications 0.012” x 40.875” G30 and with the specifications 0.019” x 48” G90 can both be found in the approximate range of $46.00-$47.00 cwt. ($1,014-$1,036/mt or $920-$940/nt) ex-Midwest mill--both down $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) from last week. As a result of the price softening, more and more buyers are taking advantage of the trend and sources report increased purchasing activity.
Offers on US domestic Galvalume base price followed the same pattern. Prices came down $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) in the last week to the general range of $45.00-$47.00 cwt. ($992-$1,036/mt or $900-$940/nt) ex-Midwest mill.
The continuous weeks of decreases and somewhat stable import prices has buyers wondering where the bottom will be--so far, predictions point to further softening, especially if scrap prices decline this month as expected.
