The Brazilian slab producers have closed their last deals for shipments in October at $555/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

The price is in line with expectations unveiled last week for prices in the $550/mt to $560/mt range, after having failed to close fresh deals at $560/mt to $570/mt, the range of the deals effectively closed for the first shipments of October.

The negotiations for the first deals for shipments in November are expected to start next week.

Slab exports from Brazil in August are estimated to have exceeded the 463,700 mt exported in July. Preliminary numbers from customs also indicate slabs imports estimated at 80,000 mt in August.
