As of December 5, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have increased compared to one week ago, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
In the first part of the past week, steel plate prices indicated downward corrections due to slack demand from downstream users and decreases in futures prices, resulting in low levels of transaction activity in the market. Meanwhile, in the latter part of the given week, amid production restrictions in China's northern region and the rebounding trend in futures prices, steel plate prices gained some support and started to move on an upward trend. Steel plate inventories in the Chinese domestic market are on the low side and traders mostly hold an optimistic view of the prospects for the market, and this will provide support for steel plate prices in the coming period. It is thought that Chinese domestic steel plate offers will likely indicate upward movement in the coming week.
