During the week ending June 1, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have moved on a slight downtrend, while overall transaction activity in the market has been remained at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the following table.
During the given week, transaction prices from steelmakers in northern China have been at around RMB 2,120/mt ($342/mt) ex-works, down RMB 80/mt ($13/mt) week on week. Meanwhile, ex-works steel plate offer prices from Jiangxi-based Chinese steelmaker Pingxiang Iron and Steel, Henan-based Anyang Iron and Steel and Fujian-based Fujian Sangang (Group) have also indicated decreases, exerting a negative impact on prices in the domestic market. Furthermore, the slack demand from downstream industries, including the equipment manufacturing and shipbuilding industries, has also negatively affected steel plate prices. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue their slight downtrend in the coming week.
