Local Turkish HDG market moves on soft trend

Over the past week, Turkish hot dip galvanized (HDG) coil producers have reduced their domestic prices since trading activity has almost come to halt due to the ongoing political and economic uncertainties in Turkey and the strong fluctuations recorded in the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate. Despite the downtrend of prices, demand still has not recorded any improvement, with Turkish buyers continuing to make bookings only to meet their immediate needs.

Domestic producers’ HDG prices in the local Turkish market are currently as follows:

Product

Price ($/mt)

Change ($/mt)

HDG   0.50 mm  100gr/m²

680-710

↓30

HDG   1 mm  100gr/m²

635-655

↓15

HDG   2 mm  100gr/m²

600-615

↓20

In line with the decreases in prices in their domestic market, Turkish producers have also lowered their offer prices for the export markets, decreasing them by $20/mt week on week to the range of $660-690/mt FOB. The declines in Turkish HDG export prices are lower than the price decreases in the domestic market, since demand for Turkish HDG in the export markets is livelier than domestic demand.
