Base pricing for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) has tumbled by another $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) in the past week, with the most commonly reported transaction range now at $37.50-$39.50 cwt. ($827-$871/mt or $750-$790/nt) ex Midwest mill. Coated flats products are by far the softest segment, according to SteelOrbis sources, which is evidenced by additional price softening for both specialty grades and Galvalume products. Mills are reportedly catching up their order books and are dropping prices as a means of extending those out. At this point, US scrap prices have settled down in most markets and, as expected, US domestic hot rolled coil (HRC) has surely followed. Since additional downticks are expected to take place before July, HDG and Galvalume prices are likely to follow a similar trend.
