The most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume are once again unchanged; as with last week, the most commonly heard spot price transaction range for US domestic HDG is still trending at $41-$42 cwt. ($904-$926/mt or $820-$840/nt), ex-Midwest mill.
Trader sources, however, note that the current US spot market price points have quite a few customers looking offshore. One source close to SteelObis said he’s been “booking quite a few tons from places like Turkey and Vietnam because our prices are so far below what the domestic mills are doing.”
At current, Turkish 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil is available at a US sales price that is more than $6.00 cwt. ($132/mt or $120/nt) below US spot market prices.
“It will be really interesting to see what happens to the US spot market once all the offshore arrivals start showing up in Q4 and Q1,” another source said. “We all feel that prices are going to come down. The big question is by how much.”
