The most commonly reported spot price transaction ranges within the US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil may be stable week-on-week, still at approximately $24.50-$25.50 cwt. ($540-$562/mt or $490-$510/nt), but sources close to SteelOrbis question whether the market has reached bottom. “Large buyers can still do a little better than what the average spot market price range is,” one source said, “so the question is whether these deals will become available to the average customer, which could push the market down a bit further.”
As with last week, falling spot prices have done little to entice buyers into the market, as many continue to report having healthy inventory levels. Buyers are also concerned that if they do buy from the mill, prices will have once again corrected by the time they receive their order.
