During the week ending September 19, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have indicated an overall downtrend, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, the downtrend in ferrous metal futures prices and semi-finished steel prices has exerted a negative impact on steel plate prices. Market players have mostly hold a wait-and-see stance as bearish sentiment prevails. Meanwhile, following Mid-Autumn Day holiday (September 15-18), National Holiday (October 1-7) is approaching, which left uncertainties on the steel plate market. However, since inventory level has been at comparatively low levels and ex-works prices from steelmakers have been at high levels, the steel plate prices could gain some support. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will see a slight downtrend in the coming week.
