During the week ending July 17, average prices of medium steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have indicated an upward trend, with transaction activity in the overall steel plate market at medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, major steelmakers in northern China have increased their offer prices for steel plate, providing support for plate prices in the domestic market. Meanwhile, some steelmakers’ production lines have suspended production and the resulting reduction in supply is expected to exert some positive influence on steel plate prices. However, following the recent rapid rises in prices, it is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
