During the week ending August 20, Chinese export offers for flat steel products have seen an overall stable trend. At present, export offers for boron-added 5.75 mm hot rolled coil (HRC) given by Chinese suppliers are at $305-315/mt FOB, while export offers for 1.0 mm cold rolled coil (CRC) given by Chinese suppliers are at $360-380/mt FOB.
So far, the devaluation of the Chinese currency has not impacted flat steel export offer prices from China. Meanwhile, production cuts due to environmental protection measures with the approach of the 70th anniversary of victory in the war against Japan will likely be smaller than initially expected and so are unlikely to provide strong support for flat steel export offer prices. It is expected that demand for finished steel will rebound in overseas markets in September and market players are waiting to see how this will impact export prices.
