According to sources, Brazilian slab exporters are offering the product at $620/mt, FOB conditions for shipments in September.

Such price compares to $600/mt, under the same conditions, in a deal recently closed, also for shipment in September.

The optimism in relation to prices derives from increased demand for the product, which according to one exporter includes slab of the API and basic commercial grades.

The source mentioned that, so far this month, a few sales were concluded with clients in the domestic market, chiefly Usiminas, and also sales to associated companies abroad, adding that fresh export deals are less relevant now, due to the domestic and same group alternatives.

In June, Brazil exported 790,400 mt of slab, in average at $853/mt and imported 35,600 mt of the product at $654/mt, both FOB conditions with price deals probably closed in April.
