The US domestic cold rolled coil (CRC) market seems to have folded to downward pricing pressure, as the most commonly reported spot price transaction range has widened by approximately $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on the low end since our report a week ago, bringing the current range to $37.00-$39.00 cwt. ($816-$860/mt or $740-$760/nt), ex-Midwest mill.
Service center sources say that previously unattainable price points for small orders are now available, and while order activity and inquiries are trending at “steady to good,” the softening is primarily related to falling scrap prices and the standard “end-of-year” price erosion that’s generally seen through the fourth quarter.
