Sources close to SteelOrbis say that US domestic mills may be trying to firm prices on US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil, but, as with last week, high inventory levels and short lead times are still hindering the market. “Activity is decent, but it’s not good enough to firm prices,” one Texas-based source said. For now, the market continues to keep its fingers crossed with regard to the preliminary and final determinations for the current trade case, although those findings are still quite a ways out.
The most commonly reported spot price transaction range is also unmoved week-on-week. Base price HDG coil continues to trend in the approximate range of $28.00-$29.00 cwt. ($617-$639/mt or $560-$580/nt), ex-Midwest mill.
