Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) will apply a 5 percent price increase for steel plate and beams this week, company sources confirmed.

"The adjustment to US$909 per ton in the price of plate and US$871 per ton for beams means recovering 5 percent of the 30 percent decrease in average prices last year," explained an officer of the company.

The adjustment is also explained by economic recovery in some Asian countries, especially China, which has given new impetus to the global steel industry.
