During the week ending August 13, Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) prices have moved on a downtrend for thick specifications, though remaining stable for thin specifications, while overall transaction activity in the market has remained at low levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, prices have indicated declines for some iron ore grades, weakening the support for local HDG prices. Recently, there have been more HDG supplies arriving in the market, exerting a negative impact on HDG prices. Major Chinese steelmakers Baosteel and Wuhan Iron and Steel (WISCO) have issued their ex-works prices for September delivery, keeping their HDG prices stable, which provides some degree of support for HDG market prices. It is expected that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will indicate a slight downtrend in the coming week.
