Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

In Pacific all the majors were in the market and the standard route from West Australia to Qingdao gained almost one dollar per mt with latest fixtures done at $6.35/mt bss end November ETA West Australia. On timecharter basis $14,000/d was agreed for dely china bss Pacific RV. Trades on the route from Saldanha Bay to Qingdao followed the positive trend and $10.50/d was fixed bss early December dates. The lack of ballasters heading towards Brazil forced charterers to pay definitely more and apparently close to $13/mt was agreed bss mid-December ETA, improving by 2 dollars per mt compared to the week before. Several deals were done on TC bss in the region of $13,000/$14,000/mt bss dely China for Brazil RV. Handy (Far East/Pacific)

The volume of cargoes in this area didn't show any increase, but a shorter list of Supramaxes in prompt position, occasionally, allowed some owners to fix slightly better rates. Coal on the trade from Indonesia to China showed the usual 57,000 size non fancy type done at $5,250/d close to a small Ultramax agreed at $6,250/d and another 57,000 fixed at $6,000/d. A Tess-52 was booked for 3 to 5 months period at $6,200/d with delivery Philippines, while an Ultramax delivering S Korea fixed a NoPac RV at $5,500/d with redelivery SE Asia. On the same trade a non-fancy 56,000 dwt booked a similar trip at $5,100/d and a less favourable redelivery at Japan.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

Supramax fixed from Med W Africa showed rates decreasing through the week. A non-fancy 56,000 dwt was booked at $11,750/d from S Spain to W Africa, followed by a 58,000 dwt eco type done at $11,000/d with dely at Turkish Med. A 55,000 dwt carrying fertilizers from Morocco to India was fixed at $10,000/d plus $140,000 bb with aps dely. Grain export from B Sea to N Africa and Europe was still active but not enough to cover all the available tonnage positions, so far rates kept similar to the previous week. Very few news for spot business loading from N Europe included an Ultramax fixed with dely passing Gibraltar for a fertilizer cargo from the lower Baltic to India at a quite strong $14,500/d.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

Trades in these waters showed a more discontinuous trend on the Atlantic Americas coasts with no sensible affection to the rate levels. A fancy Supramax was booked from S America to SE Asia at $10,000/d plus $100,000 bb, while a smaller one fixed a short coastal trade in the area at $10,500/d and a similar vessels was done for 3 to 5 months period, with Atlantic redely, at $8,250/d. An Ultramax delivering W Africa fixed 100/140 days timecharter redely WW at $9,500/d and she's expected to load at S America. Another Ultramax delivering USG got a daily rate of $12,500/d for minimum 90 days trip with redely MEG-Japan range, a 55,000 dwt was fixed with scrap from USEC to Turkey at $13,000/d and a fancy 36,000 tonner was booked from the same loading area to Med at a nice $9,600/d.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

Finally an increase in the activity was reported in the area allowing, in addition to a smaller amount of tonnage available in the area, owners to see some improvement on rate in the spot market. Two Ultramaxes were booked in the mid $11,000's daily with delivery S Africa to carry coal to China and, with a similar delivery, a non-eco Supramax was fixed at $13,000/d loading coal to the MEG. Carrying iron ore a similar vessel got $7,600/d delivery and loading Bandar Abbas to China and a third one was fixed at $7,050/d for the same trip except for the delivery in Kuwait via Iran. A fancy 58,000 carrying fertilizers from MEG to Thailand agreed $8,500/d and same rate was paid to a smaller and worse 56,000 dwt for a similar trip with redelivery EC India.
