Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

After long lull, Capesize market lived a volatile and positive week. In Pacific West Australia/China cargoes paid up to $6/mt for early July dates. Out of South Africa, Saldanha Bay to Qingdao cargoes were fixed closed to mid $9/mt while out of Brazil Tubarao/Qingdao fixtures were reported at $13/mt. General positive tone influenced Atlantic side as well even with less activity; closed to $9,000/d was fixed for a quick round via Narvik while trip via Black Sea to Far East were trading in the region of mid teens. Also period market was more active: short period fixed in mid 10,000 for a 170k dwt.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

The ECSA is still driving the Panamax market with rates improving day by day. Vessels were fixed at $13,000/d plus $300,000 bss aps or around $8,000 bss dop SE Asia (on voyage freight reached $26.00/mt for July stems). TransAtlantic round voyages as a consequence of an improving grain market reached interesting levels with vessels fixed at over $9,000/d for short duration or even longer (as 2‐3ll bss delivery Passero). Some fresh orders from the North Atlantic with trips via the USG to the Far East fixed at $15,000‐$15,500/d. Activity in the Far East was firm last week due to the growing inquiry of tonnage in ECSA. Long NoPac rounds were at around $6,000/d on a standard Panamax and $6,500/7,000/d on a nice Kamsarmax. Aussie RV was fixing at around $6,500‐7,000/d bss dop China delivery. Indonesian coal trips to China were fixed at around $5,000/d and around $6,500/d for India redelivery. Interest around period trading with short duration reported at around $7,000/d on lme. 1 year duration was at around $7,750‐$8,000/d on a nice Kamsarmax.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

Most of the chartering interest this week was still oriented to Indonesia/India Supramax coal cargoes. The week started showing a 52,000 dwt fixing an unexciting $8,500/d basis Spore/Indonesia/EC India, followed by a larger vessel done at just $8,000/d. Pressure from Charterers showed as 2 vessels were reported bss round trip with redely dop S/EC India ‐ one at $6,500/d and a fancier type at $8,000/d. Otherwise a 55,400 dwt got committed for short period at just $7,350/d with delivery S Korea and similar tonnage was seen doing daily rates at the $7,000/d mark for business via Indonesia to China. A remarkable $9,500/d was seen reported on a 28,000 dwt carrying steel from Japan to the MEG.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

Little news about concluded business was available this week. Chartering interest ex north Europe still looked quite soft. Scandinavian operators took a fancy 58,000 dwt for short period at $10,500/d with delivery Poland and Worldwide redelivery. From southern Europe, a trip with clinker from Greece to West Africa was done at a lower $6,500/d, possibly influenced by having the vessel in a better market position after the voyage. Not much was heard from the Black Sea, where an increase in grain exports was rumored both for Supramax and handysize stems, the latter said to be fixing firmer levels.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

The week started with a 53,000 dwt vessel at $17,500/d from USG to India, confirming that the heat was on in this loading area. From this area an Ultramax did $14,000/d to N Europe and $12,000/d was the hire for a 51,000 dwt to the Med. Greater activity ex S Am ended up with charterers agreeing deliveries in the east Atlantic for S Am loading. A 56,000 dwt got $10,500/d from Gibraltar via NCS Am to the MEG, basis delivery at ewes Africa and another one fixed $9,500/d via Brazil to the F East. An Ultramax was paid $10,500/d on the same trade basis dely S Am. An Ultramax got $11,700 basis dely Venezuela for 2/3 laden legs and a 56,000 dwt agreed $14,000/d aps Brazil to carry grains into Algeria.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

A Supramax was fixed at an acceptable enough $7,500/d from the MEG to EC India. Interest for moving Supramax coal cargoes on voyage terms from South Africa to Pakistan did not lead to any deals due to owners being discouraged by charterers' low ideas. Smaller handysize steel cargoes from the MEG to the Red Sea were said to have been covered at lower levels.
