Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

Mixed views last week with rates softening at the beginning and then a quick change of sentiment on Friday. In the Pacific basin the majors took sever ships in the region of $7.6/7.7/mt. On Friday there were rumours that $7.9/mt was agreed. On the fronthaul routes rates ranged between $21.5/22/mt. In Atlantic rates weakened, but again at the end of the week the market changed drastically with TransAtlantic agreed higher than $11,500/d and charterers ready at around $13,000/d for mid July dates.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Again a poor week for Panamax. There were a few positive signs for future scenario, after the summer. Not many fixtures were reported for TransAtlantic, all at very low rates. Trip F East was still steady with rates around $12,000/d + 200,000 from USG and just a bit higher from ECSAm. Not much activity for short period business concluded at levels around $8,750/9,000/d. The Pacific followed the same trend of the previous weeks, but there were more fresh cargoes and fixture. Coal cargoes to India absorbed some of the tonnage list, avoiding rates to fall further. Rates for NoPac and Australia RV are in the $3,000/d level basis dely dop and for Indo/China RV were around $2,000/d dop equivalent, anyway most of Pacific fixtures were done on Aps basis.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

The market remained slow. A fancy 58,700 dwt was reported at $9,500/d basis delivery Spore for a trip with coal via Indonesia to EC India. That fixture was followed by a dolphin type 57,000 dwt concluded at $1,000/d less due to her higher consumption and smaller intake. A 57,900 dwt agreed $7,500/d basis dely close to loading port for a trip to India. At the end of the week a sudden improvement of demand lead to another 57,900 dwt fixed at a considerably higher $11,500/d basis dely Spore via Indonesia with coal to EC India. The number of Supramax fixed during last week was higher and included NoPac RV and short period deals. A 34,000 dwt agreed a softer $4,500/d basis dely Spore for a trip via Australia to Japan and a 31,800 dwt agreed $5,750/d to move bulk sugar from WC US to Florida. Improved activity at the end of the week affected also the Handies with a 32,600 dwt achieving an interesting $9,000/d basis dely Japan to carry petcoke from the WC US to EC India.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

Only two fixtures were reported from these waters, however activity was much larger both from Cont and Med/BSea range, but was kept private probably upon owners request. A fancy 36,746 dwt agreed $8,250/d to carry grains from N France to WAfr, nothing exciting considering that then the unit will have to ballast to S America or accept a poor rate for a cargo back to Europe. A cargo of fertilizer Handy was rumored from lower Baltic to S America, but so far no details emerged. From Med a 50,000 dwt agreed $1,500/d basis dely Egypt to USG. A couple of Supramax fronthaul were quoted for ppt loading ex BSea, but no further news. Charterers were evaluating a 35,000 dwt around $4,000/d basis dely Bsea for a trip to N Africa with grains and S Spain to WAfr with clinkers.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

Rates remained very similar to the previous week for Supramax in these waters. On fronthaul a 58,000 dwt got $12,000/d + 200,000 bb from Brazil to F East and a similar unit got $15,750/d from USG. TransAtlantic trade registered a 55,000 dwt fixed at $8,000/d from USG to N Europe and another Supramax got $9,500/d from S America to Algeria with grains. Handysize once again performed better with a 34,000 dwt achieving $9,750/d from Brazil to Morocco and another similar unit was fixed at $9,250/d basis redely Algeria. From USG a slightly smaller unit got $8,000/d for a trip to Cont. A 31,000
dwt got $5,000/d basis dely WAfr via S America to BSea. A fancy 33,000 dwt was fixed for 3/5 months basis dely Argentina, redely Atlantic.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

The imminent Ramadan didn't help a market already extremely quiet. A lot of fixing and failing went on for all sizes out of Arabian countries in particular. Activity from India was very weak and a 58,000 dwt was the only fixture reported, at $9,000/d + 200,000 bb basis dely SE Africa for a trip with coal to China.
