Iran’s steel output to increase by 600’000 tons

The Association of Iranian Steel Producers stated that the volume of private sector steel output will increase by 600'000 tons and reach 1.5 million tons during the current year March 20, 2004-March 19, 2005. The private sector in Iran meets the 28% of the total domestic demand of beam and iron rods. The rest of the requirement is met by through imports or by state owned steel companies. 1.8 million tons of steel bar imported in the previous year, of which 1 million tons were used in state owned facilities and the remainder utilized by the private sector.
