Great Lakes iron ore shipments ascend in April

In April, iron ore shipments of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway rose by 8.5% compared to the same period of last year. The data released by the Cleveland based Lake Carriers Association indicates that April shipments amounted to 6 million net tons. In the first four months of the year, iron ore shipments reached 11.9 million tons, revealing a rise of 40% compared to the corresponding period of last year. The increase in iron ore shipments is attributed to the high demand. Additionally, cumulative figure is recorded a rise of 20% when compared with the five-year average.
