Global crude steel output reaches half a billion mts in H1
International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) announced the first six month global crude steel production. Accordingly, global crude steel production reached 503.3 million mts in the first six months of the year with an increase of 7.9% compared to 466.5 million mts recorded in the same period of last year. June crude steel production was also up by 6.2% to 83.9 million mts. China produced 20.8 million mts of crude steel in June. This figure was 13.8% higher than previous year, but 1.2% lower than the previous month. Country's cumulative production hit 124.7 million mts, up by 21.1% from a year earlier. Crude steel production in Asia rose to 38.4 million mts in June with an increase of 8.2%. Year-to-date production recorded a 11.9% increase and reached 229.9 million mts. Asia accounted for 45.7% of global production in the first six months of 2004. In the Middle East, crude steel output rose by 5.3% compared to June 2003 and 4.7% year-to-date.
