Global crude steel output figures for July 2004
The data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) shows that global crude steel production reached 589.7 million mts in the first seven months of the year, up by 8.2% compared to the same period of last year. July crude steel production was recorded as 85.6 million net tons with an increase of 9% from a year earlier. China again showed strong growth with production of 22 million mts of crude steel in July, a rise of 20.3% on July 2003. Country's cumulative production hit 146.7 million mts, up by 21% from a year earlier. In July, China's production accounted for 25.7% of world production. Crude steel production in the 25 member states of European Union increased by 9.8% to 16.1 million mts in July. Year-to-date production recorded a 5.2% increase and reached 113.9 million mts. In Turkey, crude steel production soared by 12.1% to 11.8 million mts in the first seven months of the year. Turkey produced 1.8 million mts of crude steel in July. July production in North America amounted to 10.8 million mts. This figure was 8.4% higher than the 9.99 million mts recorded in the same period of last year.
