EU steel exports in 2003
According to the latest data published by the Eurofer, European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries, finished products exported by the EU in the first six months of year 2003 amounted to 9.8 million tons, up by 14% compared to same period last year. The average monthly exports in such case can be quoted as 1.6 million tons. Including
semis, the exports reached up to 10.5 million tons, which represents an increase of 12.5%.
In flat exports, hot rolled coil represents the largest product by volume. In addition,
plate exports were up by 28%. Cold rolled coil and
coated exports were up by 13% and 28% respectively.
Furthermore, long products imports increased by 25% against the first six months of 2002 to 3.4 million tons in the aforementioned period. This represents a 50% increase in
wire rod imports and a 25% increase in
merchant bar imports.
Turkey and Czech Republic were the main suppliers.
