Zhang Xiaogang, general manager of Chinese steelmaker Anshan Steel has stated that, in his view, the restructuring of the overall steel industry in China can be completed within three years.

Meanwhile, commenting on the merger between Anshan Steel and Benxi Steel, both based in Liaoning Province, Mr. Zhang said it would be completed within the current year. He said that over the past two years progress had been slow in the restructuring of the two enterprises, especially due to the issue of allocation of industry resources between a state-owned enterprise and a private sector enterprise.

Mr. Zhang added that among its next targets Anshan Steel plans to boost its regional industry layout and its international activities.
