The Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal is carrying out the construction of a new pulverized coal injection (PCI) plant.

The construction works were started in February of the current year, while the plant is expected to be completed in autumn of 2009.

The plant was supplied by the German engineering company Küttner.

The installment of PCI technology at the mill will allow Zaporizhstal to switch completely from natural gas to coal dust and also to decrease the use of coke by 10 percent in blast furnace production. According to the producer's plans, following the introduction of PCI technology, Zaporizhstal will use 150 kg of coal dust per one mt of pig iron production
