The Ukrainian iron ore and steel producer Metinvest Holding (Metinvest) has announced that its subsidiary Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works (EMZ) has completed the scheduled major overhauls at the core process equipment of its production shops. The capital expenditure for the maintenance and repair program is almost UAH 92 million (about $11.34 million), which is 31 percent more than was spent on maintenance and repair in the previous year.

The overhauls have been carried out at 16 units of EMZ's sintering, blast furnace, steel smelting and rolling shops (compared to 10 units in 2008), allowing the upgrade of the units and the increase of their cost-performance capacities.

"During the last three years, the implementation of major overhauls in sets has proved its efficiency. Now, there are less downtimes at the metallurgical and energy supplying units, while our planned saving from the current set of overhauls will amount to UAH 5 million (about $616,523)," EMZ general director Alexander Podkorytov stated.
