World pig iron output down 0.4 percent in July from June

In July this year, world pig iron production amounted to 97.07 million mt, decreasing by 0.4 percent compared to June and declining by 2.6 percent compared to the same month of 2014, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first seven months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 685.86 million mt, down 1.86 percent compared to the same period of 2014.
 
In July, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 74.43 million mt, down 3.2 percent, with 57.33 million mt produced by China, decreasing by four percent, 6.96 million mt produced by Japan, down 6.8 percent, and 4.8 million mt produced by India, increasing by 2.13 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.86 million mt of pig iron, up 2.1 percent, while the CIS produced 6.64 million mt, down 3.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
