In February this year, world pig iron production amounted to 92.09 million mt, falling by 6.3 percent compared to January and rising by 1.2 percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the January-February period of this year, world pig iron production totaled 190.37 million mt, up by 4.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
In February, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 71.77 million mt, up 1.8 percent, with 55.57 million mt produced by China, up 2.1 percent, 6.22 million mt produced by Japan, down 3.3 percent, and 5.22 million mt produced by India, increasing by 8.9 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.38 million mt of pig iron, down 0.1 percent, while the CIS produced 6.19 million mt, down three percent, both on year-on-year basis.
