In the first quarter of this year, world
pig iron production amounted to 295,680 million mt, rising by 2.12 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace
pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in March this year global
pig iron production amounted to 101.56 million metric tons, increasing by 10.87 percent compared to February and up 1.37 percent on year-on-year basis.
In March,
pig iron output in Asia amounted to 78.10 million mt, up 0.81 percent, with 61.62 million mt produced by
China, down 0.12 percent, 7.07 million mt produced by
Japan, down 1.46 percent, and 4.48 million mt produced by
India, up 4.27 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 8.54 million mt of
pig iron, while the CIS produced 7.04 million mt, with an increase of 7.10 percent and an increase of 1.11 percent respectively, year on year.
