World DRI output up 7.6 percent in January-November

According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the first 11 months of this year came to 58.3 million metric tons, increasing by 7.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
 
Meanwhile, in November this year world DRI output totaled 5.2 million metric tons, decreasing 5.3 percent as compared to the previous month and up by 12 percent year on year.
 
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in November 2011. India's DRI output was 2.4 million metric tons in November, increasing 3.5 percent compared to October levels and up 47.6 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Mexico, with outputs of 820,000 mt and 500,000 mt respectively.
