Global crude steel production in November this year decreased by 4.1 percent year on year to 127 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel). In the given month, the average capacity utilization of steel mills across the globe was 66.9 percent, four percentage points lower compared to November 2014 and down 1.4 percentage points compared to October this year.
In the January-November period of this year, global crude steel production decreased to 1.47 billion mt, down 2.8 percent year on year.
In November this year, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 87.21 million mt, down 2.3 percent, with 63.3 million mt produced by China, down 1.6 percent, 8.7 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 4.7 percent, 7.14 million mt produced by India, down 0.2 percent, and 5.89 million mt produced by South Korea, falling by 0.5 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
EU-28 countries produced 13.16 million mt of crude steel in November, down 7.5 percent year on year. In November, Germany's output was 3.48 million mt, declining by 3.1 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 1.86 million mt, up 0.4 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 1.18 million mt, down 14.7 percent year on year.
Turkey produced 2.60 million metric tons of crude steel in November, with a 7.2 percent decrease from the same month in 2014. Iran's crude steel production in November this year amounted to 1.28 million mt, down 12.2 percent year on year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 8.19 million mt in November, down 1.7 percent year on year, with Russia producing 5.72 million mt, decreasing by 3.1 percent, and Ukraine producing 1.88 million mt, up 3.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In North America in November, crude steel output totaled 8.39 million mt, down 13.7 percent, with the US producing 6.08 million mt, decreasing by 15.6 percent, and Mexico producing 1.31 million mt, down 9.5 percent, all on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in South America in November amounted to 3.45 million mt, down 5.1 percent from November 2014, with Brazil's output totaling 2.55 million mt, decreasing by 4.4 percent year on year.
