WISCO-Nippon Steel JV tests electrolytic tinning line No. 1

On November 18, Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Co. (WISCO) announced that a successful hot run test was carried out on November 15 on the electrolytic tinning line No. 1 of WISCO-Nippon Steel Tinplate Co. Ltd, WISCO’s tinplate joint venture with Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corporation.
 
The designed annual output capacity of the electrolytic line No. 1, on which construction commenced in November 2012, is 200,000 mt. The joint venture in question, based in Wuhan city in China’s Hubei Province, was set up in March 2011 with an investment of RMB 1.85 billion ($302 million). WISCO and Nippon Steel each contributed 50 percent of the total investment.
