Welded Tube USA, a subsidiary of Canada-based pipe and tube producer Welded Tube of Canada, completed the purchase of a 45-acre site in Lackawanna, New York. The site is located on the former Bethlehem Steel facility in Lackawanna. Welded Tube bought the property for $812,700 and will use it to construct a $50 million steel mill that will supply pipe to the oil and gas drilling industry.

The investment process is slated to occur in three phases: first, Welded Tube will build a 109,000 square foot manufacturing facility; second, the pipe plant will be expanded with an additional 34,000 square feet; third, the company will build a 30,000 square foot building to complete the property. Phase one construction is expected to be completed in February 2013 with production beginning in August 2013.
