German automaker Volkswagen said it has resumed operations at two South American plants as of May 18: the Pacheco plant in Argentina, and the São José dos Pinhais facility in Brazil.

Other Volkswagen plants in Brazil, including the São Bernardo do Campo, Taubaté and São Carlos sites, are expected to restart by the end of this month

Both subsidiaries, Volkswagen Group Argentina and Volkswagen do Brasil, said they are following the guidelines and best practices set by the German group in Germany and China, which includes social distancing and sanitizing procedures.

The Pacheco plant has a 3,700 workforce. It produces and exports the Amarok model to over 35 countries. The São José dos Pinhais facility will focus production on the SUV model T-Cross.
