Vietnam plans to lower coal exports

Vietnamese government announced plans to reduce the country's crude oil and coal exports between 2006 and 2010, in an effort to increase energy supply in the domestic market. Vietnamese Ministry of Planning & Investment (MPI) indicated that coal exports in 2006 should remain unchanged at 14 million metric tons; however exports should be lowered to 8 million metric tons by 2010. In Jan-November 2005 period, Vietnam is forecasted to have exported 15 million tons of coal valued at $571 million, up 44.6 percent in volume against 2004, and 82 percent in value against 2004.
